10 Rarest RPG Weapons Ever
4. Eltonbrand - The Elder Scrolls IV: Morrowind
If you were betting there was a good chance we wouldn’t get to the end of this list without including at least one entry from the Elder Scrolls series, you would have won that bet, and this one is a doozy.
Morrowind features a sword called Goldbrand that you can obtain as a reward from Boethiah, the Daedric Prince of Deceit after completing his quest to reinstate his shrine. You can, however, transform this fancy golden longsword into an upgraded version called Eltonbrand which is especially rare for reasons that will become very clear very quickly. You see, in order to have Goldbrand upgraded into Eltonbrand, you need to be a vampire when you talk to the High Elf nightblade Sirilonwe, who will then send you off to kill a Dark Elf mage called Shashev, after which you can obtain his key.
If you have his key when you’re doing Boethiah’s quest and exactly 11,171 gold in your inventory when you turn it in, a script will run that reads “Go To Hell, Carolina” and you’ll get Eltonbrand instead of Goldbrand.
If you’re extraordinarily confused by what just happened but happy that you now have a sword with way better stats, let me give you the short version. Basically, NBA basketball player Elton Brand was a favourite of Bethesda dev Mark Nelson. His birthday correlates with that very specific amount of gold, and their rivals were the North Carolina Tar Heels. So there you go.
