The world of Dragon Age: Origins is a dangerous place where death lurks around every corner. Your many encounters with the dreaded Darkspawn and other dangers of Ferelden will often end with some or all of your squad lying dead on the ground.

Still, if dying to monsters and criminals isn't enough for you, there is another secret way to make your party meet your end—friendly fire.

Not an accidental fireball to the face, mind you, but an actual conflict between your team where you are forced to take down your party members for good.

There are only a few instances where a player can permanently kill one of their own companions in Origins, most of which happen in the Haven area of the map.

The first one is with Sten, who will attack you if you come there too early, questioning your leadership skills.

The second instance happens with Leliana and Wynne. When you find the sacred ashes of Andraste and decide to taint them with dragon blood, they will try to stop you, forcing you to put them down.

These are the only situations where the game lets you permanently kill your own companions, making the deaths here not only more impactful but also quite rare.
