10 REAL Reasons Your Favourite Video Games Never Came Back
4. Prey 2 - The Bounty Was Too Big
To call the original Prey a "runaway success" would be a slight exaggeration, but it was a fun game nonetheless. A competent shooter with some mind-bending platforming (this was pre-Portal, after all), it fared pretty well with critics.
As it was, the fan base was eager for a sequel, with developer Human Head Studios throwing up a sequel announcement not long after release.
Now, we should know better than to fall for pre-rendered trailers, but this one was gorgeous. Ditching the earth/Cherokee theme from the first, it put players instead as a US Marshall turned amnesiac space bounty hunter. Armed with an array of gadgets and guns, it looked incredible from start to finish.
But as time got on and the production changed hands from 3D Realms/2K to Bethesda, fans were starting to doubt if it would ever come to light. Then the stories emerged of rifts and such between developer and publisher, and it seemed like a done deal. It was in 2014, eight years after its announcement, that the plug was finally pulled on Prey 2.
I'm not saying the 2017 reboot was bad, I just think we all wanted to play as a space bounty more.
