10 Really Stupid Decisions In Horror Video Games

2. Hiding In An Iron Maiden - Haunting Ground

Haunting Ground is a survival horror that's long been a cult gem of the genre, first arriving on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. Praised largely for it's ability to turn the sexualisation of its female protagonist into an actual instrument of fear, the way that the game approaches characters and frames the narrative through choice cameras has been used as a point of discussion for the industry since release - but if you look past all that and its Clock Tower inspired goodness, there's one glaringly stupid decision that also lasts the ages.

When being hunted by Daniella, Fiona has to hide so as not to be found and murdered - you know, the usual - with one room containing a lovely, convenient iron maiden you can shack up in in the hopes of Daniella not spotting Fiona on her rounds. Of course, if you choose to go in, Daniella spots her. And of course, the iron maiden is in full working order.

So what happens next? Fiona dies a terrible, gruesome death and you can try again without deciding to stick yourself in an instrument of death that makes Daniella's job far easier than it should be. Hey, at least some lessons were learned.
