10 Reasons Nobody Cares About The Kinect

1. Disappointing Games

Last year, Sega actually tried to do something cool with the Kinect with their game Rise of Nightmares. A survival horror game using the Kinect sounds undeniably awesome, and with this game there was hope that there would finally be a game worth buying the Kinect for. While the game ended up delivering on the visuals and atmosphere, what hindered it was, of course, the motion controls, which were often too imprecise or awkward. The game also proved to be too repetitive, forcing the player to hack and slash at foes with little else going on. The game is thought to be mediocre at best. What games like Rise of Nightmares, Kinect Star Wars, and Dragonball Z for Kinect have shown is that whenever developers have the chance to take advantage of the technology and try something different, they either refuse or fail spectacularly. From this, we can infer that the Kinect just isn€™t able to deliver legitimately good games. They either suck from lack of effort or the limitations of the technology. This is too bad, because as I€™ve mentioned before, the Kinect is itself an impressive piece of technology, it just doesn€™t seem like anyone has been able to tap into its true potential and deliver great games. Perhaps it can be chalked up to the fact that motion controlled video games are still in the early stages of development. Give it enough time, and the technology might surpass the limitations of a physical controller and usher in a new age of gaming. Or perhaps it will fade away in obscurity; another failed experiment within the video game industry. It is too early to tell, but at present, the Kinect has given us little reason to care.
