10 Reasons Why The Original Dungeon Keeper Is Still Devilishly Awesome

9. Devising Your Dark Domain

To begin your quest in a given realm, it's simple. Construct a Lair to house your minions, a Hatchery to feed them and a Treasury to store your gold. You then need to claim a Portal to allow a selection of different creatures to aid you in your cause. Failure to pay your minions will lead them to become angry and vandalise your dungeon, kill their peers and then sulk off, leaving for good. Allow a spider or a warlock to share a lair with a fly or a vampire, for example, will incite war between the differing species and a fight to the death if you fail to intervene. You can sacrifice minions in the Temple to be blessed with new creatures or perks, but sacrifice a vampire and your evil horde will become afflicted with disease. Sacrificing gold is also futile as you will be assertively told that "this is no wishing well, keeper." Combining the right mix of creatures and sacrificing them can bestow you with the deadliest of creatures, the Horned Reaper. Be careful not to slap or annoy this psychotic blitzer however, as they will rampage through your dungeon, taking every room and creature out for the count, rendering you defenceless and rightfully ashamed.
