Despite not being a free roaming game, Persona 5 has one of the best realised worlds since San Andreas.

This may seem highly unlikely considering how big and detailed San Andreas was in both its original 2005 debut and in Grand Theft Auto V, but Persona 5's interpretation of Tokyo is truly amazing, to say the least. The layout of the world is mostly explored by train, much like the real Tokyo, and certain locations are frequented by different characters on different days, encouraging exploration throughout.

Each of these locations contain their own side jobs and activities, making them feel completely unique and memorable, and even the weather matters, with different seasons having different effects on dungeons and the monsters therein. For example, choosing to study in a diner during a heavy rainstorm will boost the amount of knowledge gained, because the location itself will be more quiet.

Every game mechanic and design choice of Persona 5 feels like it goes some way to making this version of Tokyo feel authentic, whilst also a video game world packed with content. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was also hyper-detailed, and P5's Tokyo is a testament to designing a game world with zero unused space.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
