4. The Audio
There are few games that utilise audio as effectively as those in the Silent Hill series. From the shrill and ominous air raid siren that heralds the transition to the Hellish Otherworld, to the jarring wails of radio static as monsters close in, it all makes up a huge part of the tense and terrifying atmosphere throughout. Music is chillingly effective as well, adding to the sinister sense of dread the series is famous for. Play a Silent Hill game with a decent set of headphones, and your nerves may never fully recover.
