3. The Gameplay
Both series used to heavily employ the survival horror tropes of puzzle solving and monster dodging. But where Resident Evil has taken a head-first dive into action movie territory over the last few instalments, Silent Hill remains (for the most part) a traditional survival horror experience, with a slower pace and a strong focus on exploration and puzzle solving. And that's a good thing, especially when you're looking for something that'll scare you. Resident Evil seems to have jettisoned a sense of scariness in favour of bigger action set-pieces and ten times more gunplay.
