6. Indie Titles
Much has been made of Sony's apparent acceptance of indie titles in the past, and this year Microsoft acknowledged the need to bring its indie offerings into the spotlight. But of all the titles announced by Microsoft, the majority were multi-platform releases.
Meanwhile, Sony offered up the likes of Grim Fandango, Entwined and Abzu while simultaneously announcing an irresistible partnership with Devolver Digital, which promises to bring the likes of Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Broforce, Titan Souls, Not a Hero and The Talos Principle over to the PlayStation Network for their console debuts.
Yes, Microsoft has undoubtedly made a significant step in the right direction this year, but their effort has been eclipsed by Sony's continuing support for independent developers. Moreover, while Sony made certain that they reigned supreme in the indie department, they also made no attempt to alienate their indie titles in the same way that Microsoft had indies were not shoehorned into a single montage before being drowned out by a deluge of larger releases.
