The older brother of the PlayStation Vita, the PlayStation Portable or PSP for short was Sony's first attempt to break into the handheld market back in 2005 in the west and brought many beloved titles with it. A lot of great instalments in already established franchises made their way to the PSP during its lifecycle and through the magic of the PlayStation Store, and most of these can be enjoyed on the Vita.
Games such as the incredible God of War: Chains of Olympus which brought the brutal god killing action of the God of War franchise into the small screen was praised upon its release for being one of the most polished games released for the system, earning it Metacritic's 2008 PSP game of the year.
Also, you had Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, another fantastic chapter in the Metal Gear franchise that was praised for having an extreme amount of content. Not to mention that it also had an ad-hoc co-op mode and featured a 6 man online competitive mode. This game was so well received by fans that it was eventually included on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.
Both of these games and many more critically praised games from the PSP era are available to download and play to this day on the Vita.
