Though earlier trailers for the game were extremely vague when mentioning the game's narrative, a few months ago we finally got our first proper glimpse at the story, which with it revolving around Aiden's dead niece and his sister's kidnapping, appeared to be relatively generic thriller fodder, albeit with a techno twist. Sadly, there isn't a whole lot more narrative meat in the final game, confirming our fears that, in spite of its fun hacking gameplay, Watch Dogs boasts a surprisingly conventional story. One has to ask: what was wrong with just making Aiden a lone hacker? Instead the game is shackled to this needless relationship with his sister and nephew in order to try and cheaply shoehorn some emotion into the game. The problem is that the writing never really makes us care about any of the characters (especially the relatively bland Aiden), and ultimately, the plot is probably one of the worst things about the game: generic, forgettable and merely a means to an end - to pull off some kick-a** set-pieces.
