3. How To Lose Friends And Alien-ate People
Multiplayer can't even provide a platform to salvage this game, as it's just spread far too thin. There are your standard deathmatch/ extermination modes, which are fun to play but again, not revolutionary. You earn xp points which will unlock better weapons to deal more death, but there's no need really when the shotgun is overpowered and has a ridiculous range. The one notable game mode is Escape, whereby marines work together to get to the exit zone with the help of sealing doors and sentry-guns while the aliens pursue them relentlessly. It actually works really well and is a lot of fun, there is genuine suspense as you frantically weld the doors shut before seeing your buddy impaled on an alien tail. But with only two playable maps after a couple of hours you've played it to death. Taking control of the aliens themselves is also a deal-breaker. Once you try climbing up walls you'll get the sense you're trying to crawl up your own behind, before being shot. No previous
Aliens game has gotten it right, no surprise Gearbox didn't. Honestly, there are demos out there that offer more.
