10 Reasons Why We Need A Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake

8. Terrifying bosses

There’s something a little extra about CODE: Veronica’s approach to bosses. Tyrant’s (Umbrella’s most powerful and deadly bioweapons) are being mass-produced on Rockfort Island, and you’ll fight several this time out. Other standouts include: an alligator-sized electric-salamander, an armoured worm-thing directly lifted from Tremors, and also a giant spider (I know that last one’s been done plenty, but this time it’s really big!).

Boss fights have never been one of Resident Evil’s strong points; RE combat is good and fun but it falls down in these prolonged encounters and is often reduced to firing entire magazines of bullets into big lumbering bosses before running away for a bit - this describes ninety percent of Resident Evil bosses.

However, CODE: Veronica tried to innovate.

Several bosses could be skipped entirely, while mandatory encounters could usually be tackled in multiple ways, either through brute force at the expense of vital resources, or through use of the environment such as ejecting them from a plane alongside the cargo for example.

While the boss fights weren’t perfect - no Resident Evil has ever achieved that - they were a step in the right direction and could be further improved upon in the remake.
