10 Reasons Why We Need A Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake

6. Complete reinvention of Steve Burnside

Early on in CODE: Veronica’s development, Leon Kennedy was intended to return alongside Claire Redfield, but this was later changed, and Leon was ditched and replaced with a new character, Steve Burnside.

Steve looks like the result of some Umbrella experiment which took the genes of Leon S. Kennedy and Leonardo DiCaprio circa 1997 and swished them together in a test tube, presumably with the goal of creating the ultimate boy band frontman (Steve’s haircut was changed for subsequent ports of CODE: Veronica so that he didn’t resemble DiCaprio quite so closely).

Steve’s only canon appearance was in Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and it’s fair to say most fans weren’t too sad about that. The character isn’t well-loved and would need significant changes for the remake.

However, Carlos Oliveira in the RE3make had almost nothing in common with his original incarnation other than his name and occupation; what had been a forgettable and vapid character was infused with tons of cool and charm at the second attempt.

So, following that logic there’s hope that Steve Burnside isn’t irredeemable should Capcom go back to the drawing board and start afresh with the character.
