8. Jealousy
Skyrim offers players a unique opportunity; you create a character who, no matter what race, appearance or particular attributes you choose, is 'Dragonborn' and is destined to become the saviour in the war against Alduin and his returning dragons. No matter what you do with your character along the way, he or she is always going to be cool. There's just no way they can't be. And every Skyrim player will find that one moment where they look at their in-game self and feel an enormous sense of pride at what their creation has become. Unfortunately, though, gamers are an insecure bunch. There are countless blogs and forums online that are dedicated entirely to Skyrim. These cover a huge range of topics, including things like secret in-game locations, unique items and so on. They also very often contain images and reports from players who are particularly proud of their character and want to share them. At this point players flicking through the pages of this forum are struck by the realisation that their Skyrim character might not be as bad-ass as they thought. Jealousy is a terrible thing, and gamers are certainly not exempt from feeling it. Suddenly that armour that you put countless gold and hours into crafting doesn't seem so cool compared to what other people have. This constant comparison players make between their character and those of the millions of other Skyrim players is another driving factor behind why we're still playing. If I'm saving the world, then I have to make my character better than everybody else's!
