10 Reasons You Should Play This Generation's Worst Video Games

5. Wolfenstein: Youngblood

In 2014, MachineGames brought out Wolfenstein: The New Order, followed by an on-par DLC in The Old Blood, and a fair attempt at a sequel with The New Colossus.

You can already see the natural progression: It went down with the sequel and firmly crashed into the ground with the spin-off, Youngblood. A short but brutally stretched out co-op focused game with minimal plot, uninteresting characters beyond the protagonists and repetitive gameplay. I don’t know who took control of MachineGames throughout the years, but they were unaware and ignorant to what made the previous titles so great.

Youngblood seemed like a cash grab, and you’re not encouraged to play it out of anything positive. Instead, you should play it for the same reason and in the same context you’d watch The Room: With a friend, maybe some alcohol, at a significant discount, enjoying what you can of what remains of the Wolfenstein universe.

Though, there is one significant redeeming quality in that the level design is headed by Arkane Studios, developers of the Dishonored franchise and Prey (2017). It’s by no means a highlight of their portfolio, being squashed by the overbearing weight of Youngblood’s ultimate mediocrity, but you can definitely feel a liveliness to Arkane’s contribution.
