10 Reasons You Should Play This Generation's Worst Video Games

4. Alone In The Dark: Illumination

It’s a fair statement to make that Alone in the Dark was never the pinnacle of horror-survival gaming. The series stood just behind Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

What there's something wrong with, though, is the weird abomination that is Alone in the Dark: Illumination - the Frankenstein’s monster of everything horror-survival.

The namesake of Alone in the Dark is about as close as you get to the source material, from there you’ll feel strong inspirations from: Left 4 Dead, Alan Wake and Resident Evil. Though, the game does none of these games any justice at all, acting as more of a parody than a tribute.

It’s a shame to see such a longstanding series fall to the modern day pitfall of trying to fit into the gaming industry, cramming so much in that in the end, you have nothing to show for it.

No tension, no atmosphere, completely empty maps, topped off with the worst camera perspective I have ever witnessed. Bonus points for the highlights everywhere, entirely undermining the intended desperation of a true survival experience.

How could you enjoy such a game?

Co-op, of course! Grab a friend and get running. It’s cheap, it’s fast-paced and even the worst games can be made fun (of) in co-op.
