10 Reasons You Should Play This Generation's Worst Video Games
2. Left Alive
Left Alive had everything it needed to work. A great concept, intention, some of the right mechanics as well as beautiful environmental art.
However, many agreed that it just wasn’t worth the sum of its parts. Individually, you might have been able to reassemble parts of its development to create something viable but altogether, it failed in its execution.
A stealthy survival game that puts you on the battlefield against all odds, at times, desperate for scraps and equipment. The foundation, not dissimilar from Metal Gear Solid’s gameplay, was there. What wasn't there was the necessary smoothness that a tactical stealth game needs.
Players don’t want to be able to find they can sprint through stealth sections, trigger a checkpoint and be safe. Nor do they want to be hindered by badly programmed AI. I feel Left Alive sits in the middle ground. It’s no Ride to Hell, but it was never finely tuned to its true potential. Arguably, it’s in the same rough state as Wolfenstein Youngblood, which we've already discussed.
Look at Left Alive for what it could have been. The issues you could, given the patience, overlook, allowing you to appreciate the positives it had. Positives, for example, like the art direction of Yoji Shinkawa, famous for his contributions to the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
