10 Reasons Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Haters Are Wrong
5. The Graphics And Art Direction Are Outstanding
Now we're in the HD era, everyone has re-evaluated 2002's The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and realised that it was a masterpiece of art direction.
At the time, most believed it was a cartoonish, child-friendly piece of junk not worth the time of SERIOUS GAMERS playing SERIOUS first-person shooters like Halo and Killzone or enjoying realistic SERIOUS sandboxes like Grand Theft Auto III, True Crime: New York City or the original Mafia.
The art direction in Breath of the Wild has been compared favourably to animation powerhouse, Studio Ghibli. It's vibrant, colourful and frankly, beautiful. No, it's not 1080p full HD or 60fps, but it's full of geuine life and vibrancy. Running through a field of tall grass will make colourful flower buds appear, crossing a treacherous volcano sees ash and embers flying through the air. Fighting a Guardian or Guardian Scout lights up the screen with vibrant, neon colours, and so on.
It's all too easy to say that BOTW is a "last-gen" game compared to the powerhouse graphics of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 - but look closely and you'll see (again) an expressive art style that is unique in the games industry - one that will be fondly remembered for years to come.
Seriously.
