10 Recent Video Games That Totally Divided Players

6. Starfield

Hellblade II
Bethesda

Starfield was unquestionably one of 2023's most anticipated video games, and boy was the discourse surrounding its release something alright.

Though reviews were largely positive, they weren't quite as glowing as many were expecting for Bethesda's long-gestating open-world sci-fi RPG. And things only ramped up from there once general players got their hands on it.

There were absolutely those players who fell in love with Starfield's richly immersive world, but for everyone wowed by it, there was someone left crestfallen by how... fine it was.

For many, Starfield simply failed to match the scale of its lofty ambitions, from the forgettable story and characters to the repetitive gameplay, unimaginative quest design, and shockingly lackluster space exploration. It had all the ingredients for greatness, but ultimately failed to distinguish itself in a crowded genre.

Almost a year removed from its release, player response has become no less divided, resulting in what's by far the most fiercely debated AAA Bethesda release to date.
