10 Recent Video Games We Were Way Too Harsh On

9. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered

Star Wars Outlaws
Aspyr

Aspyr seemed like the perfect company to work on Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, since they've ported multiple entries in the series since Tomb Raider II.

Though releasing a direct port of the classic trilogy would've been easy money, Aspyr went the extra mile, drastically updating every texture, model, and object. Several new features were thrown in, including an option to switch between the traditional and upscaled graphics, which was a treat for long-time fans. Playing these PSOne games was a core memory for many, so it should've been a dream come true to revisit them.

On the contrary, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered was criticised for its ugly textures, goofy-looking enemies, and tank controls. Although these complaints aren't wrong, they seem arbitrary. Yes, the design and gameplay are janky and dated.

But do you know what else was janky and dated? The first three Tomb Raider games. As the title suggests, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered isn't a remake. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, the developers gave the trilogy a well-rounded polish while maintaining the spirit of the classic saga.

Several critics stated that so little was done with Remastered, it would've been easier if Aspyr released direct ports of Tomb Raider I-III. But when Konami did that for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, they were ripped apart, since they didn't upscale the graphics.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
