10 Retro Christmas Video Games To Fill Your Stocking

1. Daze Before Christmas

This is an incredibly rare retro title, that may also be the most expensive stocking filler you'll ever buy. It's also the only video game on this list that actually sees you play as Santa Claus (Tim Allen's Santa doesn't count). Daze Before Christmas was a platform game originally released for the Mega Drive, and for some reason it was initially only exclusively available in Australia.

Developed by Funcom (Disney's Pocahontas), the game follows Santa after he's been dealt a double blow. For one, his elves have gone on strike, and two, a devious mouse has nicked all the toys. Santa obviously needs to up his security game. Using the magical powers of fire and ice you'll have to kill bad snowmen, stop naughty toys, and beat Mr. Weather. The game also features a very unusual powerup in the form of a cup of cocoa, which if drank turns you into Anti-Claus. Basically, it's like Krampus in all white and horns, imbuing you with a period of invincibility.

At the end of the day, playing a retro game as Santa himself is as close to the Christmas spirit you can get. Just be prepared to pay a pretty penny for a genuine copy.
