10 Retro Christmas Video Games To Fill Your Stocking

2. James Pond II: Codename Robocod

Is there anything more Christmassy than saving Santa and his workshop with a crimefighting mudskipper? Of course there is, but that shouldn't stop you from revisiting this 16-bit classic.

Despite being called James Pond and carrying the subtitle Robocod, both eye wateringly obvious spins on James Bond and RoboCop respectively, this video game has nothing to do with either. Instead, this anthropomorphic fish has to rescue Santa Claus and save Christmas. It turns out the villain from the previous game, Dr. Maybe, has escaped to the North Pole and taken over Santa's workshop, leaving James Pond with the job of bringing him down.

Throughout your missions you'll rescue penguins, reclaim children's toys, and even jump in a flying bathtub, all against a vibrant backdrop that'll strain your eyes. The game is so well loved it got a budget remake for the Nintendo DS, and is even available on the Nintendo Switch too. In other words, there's no excuse to not play this game this Christmas.
