10 Retro Christmas Video Games To Fill Your Stocking
7. The Grinch
To celebrate (cash-in) on the release of the Christmas movie starring Jim Carrey in the titular role, there were video game tie-ins of How The Grinch Stole Christmas released across multiple platforms. For the PlayStation, Dreamcast, and PC, we were treated to a 3D action platformer with polygon graphics wobbly even by the standards of the year it released.
However, the best video game version of The Grinch to be released landed on the fabulous Game Boy Colour that very same year. Developed and published by Konami, this delightful pick-up-and-play title brings nothing but Christmas cheer, even if you are playing the bad guy.
In the game, you're tasked with dashing around Whoville to steal presents from its unwitting citizens as both the Grinch and his trusty companion Max. Making matters more difficult, the town's citizens are patrolling every maze-like area hoping to dish out the Grinch's kryptonite, love and hugs. The gameplay itself will feel familiar to anybody who's touched a Pac-Man game, but in that familiarity comes a nice cosiness, like mulled wine by the fire. If you missed this the first time around, it's an ideal handheld game for all ages.
