10 Ridiculous Adult Jokes Hidden In Video Games

1. Terrydactyland's Giant Rock-On (Banjo-Tooie)

While the enormous penis seen in Apex Legends is, at least, in a game with an adult age rating, this particular bit of phallic imagery is in a game that's aimed at kids.

Banjo-Tooie was released right at the turn of the century, and it's the type of classic platforming fare we got a lot of around that time. You jump and climb through a series of colourful levels - collecting "Jiggies" along the way - and everything, from the side characters to the sound effects, is extremely bright and whimsical.

It's hardly the type of place you'd expect to see something decidedly R-rated, and as such, a lot of players were probably quite surprised to find this oddly-shaped series of rocky platforms in the Terrydactyland section of the game.

This is one of the most famous cases of an adult joke like this being in a video game, and it's not hard to see why - that monster has clearly been sculpted with all the love, care and attention to detail in the world.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
