10 Ridiculous Arguments Against The Biggest Games Of 2013
5. DmC: Devil May Cry Is A Pointless Reboot
I'll admit that before playing the new DmC, I was totally on the bandwagon of haters. Why reboot a franchise as popular as Devil May Cry? Furthermore, why make Dante look so different and so fundamentally change the look and feel of the game? Like many, I am against remakes and reboots most of the time on general principle, because it's an indication of laziness and a lack of imagination to actually make a decent sequel or better yet, a new IP worth playing. However, this all evaporated the second I played Ninja Theory's superb reboot of the franchise, which was arguably the slickest, most insane and entertaining entry in the franchise yet. For sure, it was also the easiest and most accessible title, but given how infuriatingly difficult sections of DMC3 were in particular, I wasn't too mad about that. I'll admit that Dante's new look isn't fantastic, but the cocky demeanour and voice work of his character remain superb, as do the insane special moves he's able to pull off mid battle. Simply, the thing that really matters, the gameplay, was a vast improvement over everything that came before, and as a bonus, it also had awesome graphics. It's a shame the game was a commercial bomb, though, because we probably won't get a sequel.
