Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro's Playable Teaser for the cancelled Silent Hills reboot was released for free on PSN in the summer of August 2014, and became an immediate phenomenon, even with players managing to reach the end of the survival horror demo within a single day.

But the kicker? Nobody really seemed to know exactly how they reached the end of P.T., as the game concludes with an extremely obtuse puzzle that has no immediately clear solution.

Many players managed to finish the game purely by accident, triggering a phone call which brings the demo to an end. But it wasn't until roughly a week after P.T.'s release that the concrete through-line of the puzzle's logic was deciphered.

In order to make the phone ring, the player has to trigger three baby laugh sound effects, which have specific and, frankly, ridiculous requirements. Firstly, the player has to stand in the corridor and wait for the alarm clock to reach midnight, after which a chime will play out.

To trigger the first laugh, the player has to walk 10 steps in any direction, the second requires speaking the letter "J" into the PlayStation microphone and waiting three seconds, and the third is activated by simply putting the controller down, letting it vibrate and doing nothing for a few seconds.

The phone will then ring, and after being told "You've been chosen", you can exit through the nearby door, revealing the teaser trailer for Silent Hills.

Though the general reception to P.T. was highly positive, many nevertheless took umbrage with its final puzzle proving quite so esoteric, and basically requiring the overwhelming majority of players to seek an answer online.
