10 Risky Changes That Would Make Assassin's Creed Great Again

1. Make An Assassin Game!

The main and focal problem with the Assassin’s Creed series is that it has slowly drifted farther and farther away from letting you actually embody an assassin. The first AC was a little heavy-handed with its mechanics, but it had the feeling of being an assassin.

You got given a target, researched them, and when the time was right you used the information that you - as the player - had found to take them out. Simple.

As the games progressed, they drifted away from that core mentality, instead having the player 'shape history'. And in their attempts to force every major historical event, this notion of slinking through the shadows was lost.

Its starting to feel like Ubisoft are using the Assassin's Creed name to make non-Assassins Creed games. Black Flag was more 'pirate adventure' than assassin, Syndicate more 'melee gangster brawler'. They need to stop making games that focus on the secondary aspects, and literally double down on the name right in front of them: Assassin.

I say, they Ubi back to their roots. Pick a historical time period and make it all about the assassination as a methodology. Revitalise the stealth aspects and make the game about hunting down your targets, gathering information on how to pick them off.

You can still have a story, but tell it through the gameplay, and don’t shape the gameplay to the story. In short, just make an assassin-based game!

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
