10 RPG Video Game Fates Worse Than Death
4. Fused With A Virtual Intelligence - Mass Effect 2
The deep reaches of space can be full of nightmare fuel, so it should come as no surprise that Mass Effect has a fair number of horrid fates. Still, this one from Mass Effect 2 goes above and beyond.
You'll encounter this dreaded fate within Mass Effect 2's Overlord DLC, which sees Commander Shepard and his valiant crew uncovering the secrets behind the Cerberus-led Project Overlord. Let's just say the results are far from pretty.
During this DLC, Shepard is forced to contend with a rogue VI while investigating a Cerberus research base. But, this villain is not all machine, as a human "volunteer" is connected to it, creating a human/VI hybrid.
The player eventually finds out that David, the autistic brother of the lead scientist on the project, was forced into becoming a lab rat to fuse with the VI. This was thanks to his unique ability to communicate with the Geth.
You're met with the gnarly image of David strapped into a horrid contraption that looks like a Saw trap had a baby with an H.R. Giger painting. Not only does it look uncomfortable as hell, but it also overloads poor David's senses, who begs you to "make it stop."
Thankfully, you can get David out of this situation if you choose to. Of course, you can also keep hush-hush about it and let the experiment continue - if you're a monster.
