7. Chozo Ghosts - Metroid Prime
If fans had to choose a single word to define the Metroid series, it would probably be atmospheric. Metroid Prime, one of the most beloved and innovative entries of all, emphasizes this concept very well.
Alone on Tallon IV but for scores of unfriendly beasties, Samus passes through beautiful Chozo ruins, and reads haunting and emotional messages they left behind. We slowly put together something of what happened to this civilization, and the one thing that’s absolutely crystal clear is that it certainly wasn’t good. It’s little surprise, then, the spirits of some of those Chozo have mixed feelings about the whole ‘being dead’ thing.
Mixed, furious feelings. In the spooky Hall of Elders, players will have their inaugural encounter with a Chozo Ghost, evasive, ethereal enemies that are corrupted by the influence of the Phazon and driven to attack Samus. They must be tracked with the X-Ray visor, and can’t be harmed by our heroine’s elemental beams.
