10 Scariest Levels In Non-Horror Video Games

Folklore tends to lean towards the scary and horrific more often than not, because no one wants a campfire story about Care Bears over Lovecraftian nightmares, do they?

So that The Witcher series is steeped in all things eldritch and folklore isn't so much terrifying as it is the norm, yet even it isn't without its surprise.

Not far in to Geralt's third adventure, you encounter the Bloody Baron and his exploits as you try and gain information on the whereabouts of Ciri. Naturally, you have to complete this tangent before you get to progress, and in doing so, you're treated to some grim discoveries.

I'll spare the full details here, but the mission culminates with you having to unearth the Baron's miscarried and stillborn child, which in itself is pretty horrifying. You could kill it, or you could see it through and essentially "cleanse" the Botchling into a nicer version of the monster it has become.

In the grand scheme of all things weird in the Witcherverse, it was pretty dark even by those standards. Fairly sure nobody expects "dig up dead baby" on their first playthrough.
