10 Sci-Fi Video Game Sequels Better Than The Original
5. Star Wars: Battlefront II
The original Star Wars: Battlefront is remembered fondly as an above average Star Wars game, a fun multiplayer experience that brought some of the most famous battles in the series to life. However, it was criticised for the disappointing single player experience, leaving significant room for improvements by its successor.
The seismic level of improvements that Star Wars: Battlefront II made to its predecessor, just over a year after the original's release, remain absolutely staggering to this day. An expanded single player campaign, allowing solo gamers to experience 18 major setpieces across the Star Wars franchise, was widely acclaimed and remains a beloved Star Wars campaign.
The gameplay is mostly just tweaking the original's formula but with one significant improvement: the implementation of heroes. In the original Battlefront, you could only play as a range of infantry characters, with legendary Star Wars figures such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader appearing in battle as NPCs. Battlefront II gave players the opportunity to play as these seismic characters in one of the most immersive multiplayer games of all time.
While the original is liked, the sequel is utterly adored and the Battlefront franchise has failed to top it in the years since.
