The original Half-Life was a step forward for the first person action game, leaving a major impression on millions of gamers in the late 1990s. Valve's hybrid of first person combat, intricate physics based puzzles and storytelling excellence was hugely influential, helping to establish the future of the genre and of the company itself. It remains one of the most beloved PC games of all time.

However, Half-Life 2 is often considered one of the greatest video games ever made, a monumental leap forward in every direction and has left such an impression that fans have demanded a Half-Life 3 for almost two decades since. Continuing the story of the original game's protagonist Gordon Freeman, the sequel follows him uniting alongside a resistance movement to attempt to prevent the subjection of Earth by an alien force known as the Combine.

Half-Life 2's revolutions in gameplay through the majorly improved physics engine, allowing for revolutionary weapons such as The Gravity Gun to be heavily implemented through the campaign, allowing for greater player freedom when approaching combat situations. The level design and narrative progression are also majorly improved, with the game's pacing being impeccable. It is a true video gaming masterpiece.
