10 Secret Gaming Areas You Never Knew Existed
5. The Painted World Of Ariamis (Dark Souls)
In terms of challenging games, the Dark Souls series has created an impressive legacy for itself. Punishing games that have followed in its footsteps include Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
You could say that Dark Souls wrote the book on frustrating open worlds that give little to zero information on how the player should find their way around. This made it easy to miss locations that could have been overlooked on a first, second or even third playthrough.
An easily missed location is the mysterious Painted World of Ariamis. Once the player finds the Peculiar Doll in the Northern Undead Asylum, they should return to the city of Anor Londo. On examining a guarded painting, the player is sucked into an environment that they need to fight their way through to escape.
Within the snowy world of Ariamis, you will encounter an optional boss called Crossbreed Priscilla. If you don’t fancy fighting her then you’re free to exit the painting and return to the main game. If you do feel like having another battle then your reward for defeating Priscilla is a dagger that comes with a unique moveset.
