10 Sequel-Proof Video Game Endings (That Got Sequels Anyway)

9. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

Yakuza 6
Sucker Punch

Everything is brought full circle in Sly 3, including the ultimate act of "no, really, this is the end" for any narrative.

The Cooper Vault, the prize at the end of the third game, acts as the ultimate representation of the arrogance of the Cooper family, a line that began with noble intentions but fell to the egotism of its legacy. This giant vault is filled with the gold and jewels the Cooper family has stolen from other criminals over the years, and then hoarded away themselves. For whose benefit, asks Sly 3's finale, does the Cooper Vault exist? A bunch of dead guys we've never met? Is that really what all of this was for?

The story ends with Sly sharing the wealth with the people who actually helped him throughout his journey, and then leaving the criminal life behind via fake amnesia so he can spend his life with the woman he loves.

Sly 3 is this low on the list because Sucker Punch left it just open enough an ending so that another studio could take the series and run with it, but tied up all loose ends just in case that didn't end up happening.

Sanzaru Games would take them up on that with the release of Sly 4, and the less said about that trainwreck, the better...
