10 Sequel-Proof Video Game Endings (That Got Sequels Anyway)

8. Halo 3

Yakuza 6
Bungie

Halo 3 wrapped up the story of Halo about as well as it could have. It's hard to get a more complete ending than "most of the main cast are dead and all the villains have been killed."

The Halo series was neatly wrapped up at the end of Halo 3, with Master Chief taking out the remaining leadership of the Covenant and then blasting the eldritch abomination known as the Flood to Hell, seemingly dying in the process. The Covenant War comes to a close with the humans and the Sangheili forming a truce; the only hint of stories to come being the Arbiter remaining unconvinced that John 117 is actually dead.

We would then get confirmation on that with the next Halo trilogy by 343 Studios. The new trilogy has proven... divisive, to say the least, especially the latest game, Halo Infinite, which goes all in on the infamous Live Service model. But the series still maintains a dedicated fanbase all these years later, speaking to the strength of those original games, and how well the ending of Halo 3 stuck in our collective memory.
