10 Severely Underrated Star Wars Games You Must Play

8. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds

Despite all of the large scale battles present in the lore and the movies, the Star Wars series seems to be an untapped resource for developers of real-time strategy games. One of the few RTS games centred on Star Wars was Galactic Battlegrounds €“ and it serves as the benchmark. Galactic Battlegrounds was made on the Genie engine, which is the same one used for the first two Age of Empires games, giants of the genre. In fact, Battlegrounds plays a lot like Age of Empires, which is perhaps why it€™s as good as it is €“ it€™s following a finely-tuned example already. Gameplay involves starting with a few units alongside a command centre, and having to explore the surrounding region in order to collect resources and use them to create more advanced units and buildings as well as more sophisticated technology €“ and with the aim of wiping out the enemy€™s units and buildings. So yeah, pretty similar to Age of Empires, and most other RTS games €“ but hey, if it ain€™t broke, don€™t fix it. There are also several different factions to choose from, depending on whether you feel particularly evil or not €“ and different Hero units to build depending on your faction choice. So yes, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan can show up, if you€™re skilful enough. A solid game with voice acting from the actual cast, Galactic Battlegrounds is the one to beat for any Star Wars RTS fans.
