10 Shocking Video Game Moments Players CHOSE To See

2. Undertale – Flowey Knows What You Did

Undertale’s genocide run is one of gaming’s more brutal endeavours, committing you to killing every monster and character you meet. You can choose the pacifist run instead, but what if you killed someone by mistake and tried to correct it?

Not long after you begin, Flowey will attempt to kill you, but you’ll be saved by Toriel, who acts as a protective mother figure to the protagonist. Looking to raise you like her own child, she suddenly becomes cold after you question leaving the Ruins, even battling you to stop this happening.

Fights can be resolved peacefully and are crucial to completing the pacifist but Toriel isn’t exempt from being killed.

If do kill her but decide this was the wrong move and reload your save file, you can then reload this fight and spare her instead and think you’ve gotten away with it. If so, you'd be wrong.

It’s true that resetting and sparing her doesn’t stop a pacifist run (Assuming you’ve not killed other creatures). Upon leaving the ruins, Flowey will greet you once again.

Instead of his normal lecture about survival, he’ll call you out, taunting you for thinking you’ve been clever by saving and saying “You murdered her. And then you went back, because you regretted it”.

Undertale remembers your actions between playthroughs, and it’s a terrifying moment when going in blind, but one entirely on you.
