10 Sidelined Nintendo Characters That Deserve Their Own Game

1. R.O.B (Robotic Operating Buddy)

This strangely cute little robot was designed as an accessory for the NES and would serve as a physical input device for specific games. He feels a lot like a hold-over from Nintendo's toy company past and was an attempt to make the NES look like a novel toy amidst early concerns about the viability of video gaming platforms in the home. Unfortunately, he didn't quite grasp the heart of gamers like Nintendo hoped he would and was used for just two games. Recently, R.O.B's made something of a triumphant return in the Super Smash Bros series where he enjoys a fair amount of popularity and he even had a go at kart racing in Mario Kart 7. Nintendo characters generally don't occupy much of an industrial space, instead opting for lush green worlds and the odd ice world, so it would be cool to see a steampunk Nintendo title starring this endearing fellow - they're clearly quite fond of him. With Nintendo changing their presence in the downloadable market and releasing more smaller, more niche titles, there couldn't be a better time for them to use their plethora of fun characters to design some truly new, truly great experiences. What sidelined characters from the Nintendo archives would you love to see helm a title of their own? Let us know in the comments!
