6. Kraven's Last Hunt
Another excellent example of showing readers how the Peter's character is one of Spider-Man's greatest strengths comes in the pages of Kraven's Last Hunt. Early in this story Kraven manages to defeat Spider-Man by appearing to shoot him dead. He then buries the fallen hero and dons a version of Spidey's costume in an attempt to prove he would make a better version himself. The story deeply explores the nature of Peter's character and, after he awakes from the effects of the tranquilliser he was shot with, is forced to will himself back into the world as he digs his way out of his grave. Just imagine the kinds of demons faced by Parker in that situation. While a game based around this story would likely offer a limited amount of web-slinging and wall crawling, the more linear approach could be compensated by the darkest Spider-Man game we've ever seen. It could draw in elements of psychological horror titles as Peter faces the challenge of returning to the world, and the ultimate showdowns against Kraven and Vermin could be influenced by how cleanly players manage to navigate Peter out of the grave in the first place. Pretty grim, huh?
