Maw-Ray has appeared in several Mario games but is best-known for his appearance in Super Mario 64. In the Jolly Roger Bay level, you need to force the Maw-Ray out of his lair in order to retrieve a star. However, May-Ray cannot be harmed and will cause damage if you touch him.

The May-Ray in Super Mario 64 may be the most famous but the strongest version of this colossal eel is the Mega Maw-Ray in New Super Mario Bros. In Worlds 4-3 and 8-3, Mario must swim through auto-scrolling levels while this screen-filling leviathan chases him. This serpentine sea monster is so powerful, it can destroy entire Brick Blocks and ? Blocks by crashing into them.

What makes the Mega Maw-Ray so scary is he is only of the only Super Mario enemies that has absolute invulnerability. If you touch the Mega Maw-Ray while using a Starman, it has no effect. There is nothing you can do to stun him or slow him down. All you can do when you encounter this behemoth is dodge him and swim for dear life.
