Much like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Final Fantasy VII Remake largely lived up to the hype, but also over-encumbered itself with occasional divergences into dull, bloated dungeons.

And nothing in the main questline is more infuriatingly repetitive than Hojo's Lab in the game's seventeenth chapter, "Deliverance from Chaos."

A soul-sappingly boring dungeon in which the player has to battle mobs and throw switches ad nauseum, it even dares to rival Final Fantasy XV's infamous Chapter 13 in the "Who the hell thought this was a good idea?" stakes.

Though constantly swapping between party groups throughout the chapter is a potential-rich concept, it's put to use in the most unimaginative and vacuous way possible here.

It's often said that there's an excellent 20-hour campaign hidden within Final Fantasy VII Remake's padded 30 hours, and trimming down Hojo's Lab is one easy way to remedy the game's off-kilter pacing.
