6. Team Tail Tag - Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was one of 2020's most unexpected gaming success stories - a bright, colourful, harmless riff on the Battle Royale formula released while most of the world was locked inside their homes.
It goes without saying that Fall Guys' two-dozen-or-so mini-games weren't created equal, as there's a fair chasm of quality between the fan favourites and, well, the ones nobody really likes.
Though something like Perfect Match is pretty forgettable in its original iteration, by far the most groan-inducing level to date is Team Tail Tag, in which colour-coded teams attempt to snatch and keep hold of their tails while a clock counts down. The team with the lowest number of tails in their possession is then eliminated.
While in theory this sounds plenty fun, the game's famously janky netcode makes grabbing another player's tail feel like throwing a dart at a dartboard while wearing a blindfold.
The basic collision detection is awful at the best of times, meaning that you'll often find your earnest grab for a tail unsuccessful, and conversely, another player might grab your tail from five feet away.
As a result it's a round that immediately invites feelings of dread, because even if you survive it in tact, it's less to do with skill than pure, dumb luck.
