10 TERRIBLE Levels In Great Video Games

3. Xen - Half-Life

When Valve first launched the Half-Life series back in 1998, they could have never imagined just how popular the games would have ended up becoming. With the developers focused on creating a vibrant world rather than just a 'shooting gallery', Half-Life received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike for its realistic gameplay, engaging storyline and stunning graphics for its day.

Everything about Half-Life just mixes together so well, with each and every level feeling immersive and rewarding to players.

However, chapter 15 - Xen is one small point in this otherwise perfect game where things get a little bit murky. Players take control of Gordon Freeman on the alien planet Xen, where they must try and locate a transporter to take them to Gonarch's Lair.

The level features plenty of tricky platforming, never easy in certain games of a certain age, with aliens spawning on various platforms providing an extra challenge for players. But besides the tough platforming that just don't go that well with the controls for the time, the level is also far less linear and much more frustrating to progress through than any other in the game, giving no hints for players to make sense of.
