10 Terrible Moments From The Best Video Games
7. The Flying Machine In Assassin's Creed 2
The earliest editions of the Assassin's Creed series were successful because of its willingness to break the mould of tradition. While not entirely new, its stealth and climbing mechanics added a new spin on video games. Though, this isn't where they shined brightest.
It was the faithful recreations of time periods and buildings that crafted a unique experience. Adding well-known historical figures was mostly a bonus, too.
That is until players met Leonardo da Vinci in Assassin's Creed 2 and were forced to fly around in his glider-like contraption. For a game that had often done so much right, this particular section was terrible.
It was difficult to control, made worse by its awkward mechanics and the narrative could have easily sufficed without it. Considering Ezio was an accomplished assassin, he could have easily found a variety of other methods to complete his tasks.
There was nothing wrong with da Vinci's inclusion, he was an interesting character that players recognised and aided them in settling into the world quicker. His inventions often enhanced gameplay but this particular one - later named the Bomber - sucked.
At least in the end Ezio decided the Borgia couldn't get their hands on one and opted to destroy it.
