10 TERRIBLE Trailers That Gave You Awesome Video Games

6. Brütal Legend

Something a bit different for this one, as the marketing department VERY much did their job, getting millions of us excited beyond belief for Brutal Legend... it's just that the game advertised was not what we got.

To explain, Brütal Legend is a supremely awesome, more "playable" take on a real-time strategy. You need to amass units, be aware of cooldowns and slowly dismantle the opposition when the time is right.

Think of character Eddie as a playable mouse cursor, and it all slips into place.

Did any of this come through in the marketing though? HELL no.

With Brütal Legend published by EA - and therefore marketing choices going to them - the game's open world traversal was highlighted, as was its phenomenal soundtrack, and select cutaways to combat all but eliminated this core strategic part of the game.

Go in fresh today, divorced from the deceit and with an open mind, and you'll find one of Double Fine's best games. A hilariously written, thunderously scored behemoth of heavy metal and fresh ideas... forever dogged by a marketing campaign that did it zero favours.
