With It Takes Two, Josef "F**k the Oscars!" Fares is now three for three. Three brilliantly conceptualised, unique gameplay experiences that have gone on to champion couch co-op, being fundamentally designed around playing through meaningful, fun stories with the person next to you.

Where it started though, was with Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, a Tolkien-esque setup where you play both brothers on a single controller, with one character per analogue stick, moving in unison. The game would later get a proper co-op mode on Switch, but either way, the unique selling point is the notion of dual agency in a world of puzzles, challenges and mini-games.

Was any of this in the trailer? Hell no.

Brothers' unique control scheme is literally one of a kind, and factors directly into how the story plays out. It's the entire reason to play the game, yet numerous trailers including launch sizzle reels on consoles made the game look like a totally generic co-op platformer.
