10 Terrible Video Game First Levels That Made Us Rage Quit

8. The Tutorial - Jet Set Radio

Kingdom come deliverance
Sega

Jet Set Radio was one of the Dreamcast's most distinctive titles, yet it was tough to fully savour the skating game's gorgeous cel-shaded visuals considering how much of an infuriating chore the opening tutorial section was.

Though the tutorial starts off basically enough by teaching the player the most rudimentary mechanics - moving forward, jumping, grinding, and using spray paint to tag walls - it ramps up to asking you to combo 20 and then 30 tricks in a row without touching the ground.

A little tricky, perhaps, but with some practise not too bad, right? Well, the final challenge in the tutorial is to chain 50 tricks together in a combo without hitting the floor.

Given the relatively finicky controls and how easy it is to accidentally touch the ground and have to start the whole thing over, this one can take a long time to get right, ensuring a seemingly breezy tutorial ends up lasting as long as an hour or two.

Thankfully nothing else in the game is this difficult, but it certainly doesn't get things off to an enjoyable start.
