10 Terrible Video Game Movies That Ruined Iconic Characters

7. Guile - Street Fighter

Resident Evil Wesker
Capcom

Since Street Fighter's inception, the wandering warrior, Ryu, has served as the story's lead character. So, when it was announced that Guile would serve as the protagonist of the live-action film, many fans were understandably ticked off. But in the movie's defence, this change of direction could work if Guile was well-written and portrayed by an excellent actor.

So, who did the filmmakers hire to play the US soldier? Belgian actor, Jean Claude Van Damme.

As Guile talks about his American heritage and shows off his American flag tattoo WHILE speaking in a Belgian accent, you have to wonder whether his casting was a prank. No one will question JCVD's talents as an martial artist but his thick dialect makes it almost impossible to understand what he's saying. (Some of his lines were done with ADR, which is very noticeable.)

Even though the video game version of Guile is a no-nonsense soldier with a heart of gold, Van Damme plays him like an unlikeable jerk who spews out embarrassing one-liners.

Apart from performing Guile's trademark flash kick, Van Damme did everything wrong in the role.
